Feel Good Holiday - My Vintage Valentine Look & Playlist
Every Valentine's day I deck out my home in heart motifs and start blasting old school romance jams. There's something so charming and wholesome (albeit a little cheesy) about this holiday and it just puts a huge smile on my face. Those old time tunes about going steady and stealing kisses just have an effect on my mood. They sure don't make 'em like they used to, and that sentiment applies to lingerie as well.
I'm a big lingerie connoisseur, and I'm particularly obsessed with vintage pieces (to no one's surprise, I'm sure). I'm always hunting down new nightgowns and camisoles at every second-hand shop I encounter. I find there's an assortment of colours, cuts and fabrics that I just don't come across in modern lingerie departments. Give me a rainbow of chiffon to sort through and I'm a happy camper!
A big reason why I love to buy retro skivvies is because of how versatile they can be as day-wear.
Of course, the iconic slip dress likely comes to mind, but why not also consider camisoles, rompers and dressing coats! You'll be amazed how well they pair with your favourite denim.
Or you can wear them on their own. Case in point; this jumpsuit.
This cherry red number I discovered through the handy Instagram search function, and purchased from Erin Liz Vintage. The silhouette is not for the faint of heart, I'll admit. It was the punchy colour, ruffle trim and the insanely wide-leg that sold me. It has a playful amount of sheerness to it, but not so much that it's too lewd to wear out of the house. It doesn't scream, "I'm wearing pajamas" either.
I just feel so damn cute in it! For that reason, it's my perfect Valentine's Day outfit.
The most important reason why I bought this piece (and why I buy any lingerie piece, to be frank) is because it makes ME feel good. It's never been about what my husband thinks (though I'm sure he appreciates this shopping habit of mine). It's such an intimate outfit, for lack of a better word. No other piece of clothing resonates with me this personally. I like to wear something delicate and pretty when I need a pick-me-up. I mean, how can I not smile back at the mirror with this number on?!
Maybe it's my intense adoration for retro kitsch, or my hopeless romantic soul, but I love wearing this jumpsuit, prancing around to The Supremes and eating far too many cinnamon hearts. Because it makes me feel great. And that's the attitude we should all have on Valentine's Day.
Regardless of who you may or may not be with this holiday, I encourage you to do something that makes YOU feel good! Wear the outfit that makes you happiest, embrace the love you have for yourself and others will take note.
If that's not enough, I've put together some vintage Valentine's day tunes to put you in a feel good mood! Check out the Spotify playlist below! And have a happy Valentine's Day!

This little poodle is actually a vintage score I picked up on my honeymoon in Quebec City! She just had to come home with me. |
