My New-Mom Makeup Routine

My little boy Elliott made his debut on October 20th at 8:05pm and I've been madly in love ever since. While I'm still working on his birth story to share with you all, he wanted to make a little appearance in this post!
As you can imagine, he's kept me pretty busy these past few weeks; hence the radio silence on this site. While I navigate through motherhood, I'm slowly getting back into blogging and the world of beauty.
Newborn life is exciting and exhausting. Thankfully these tried and true beauty faves come in handy for when I need a pick-me-up! |
Luckily, I have a handful of products that I can rely on to help me feel a little more like myself, and can be applied faster than my kid goes through his onesie wardrobe.
Origins Ginzing Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturizer - $37 CAD
Vichy Mineral 89 Fortifying Daily Skin Booster - $39.95 CAD
While I don't wear makeup every day, I still try to be diligent with my skincare routine. While it's much more minimalist than usual, these two products are such powerhouses that I don't need much else.
I find my skin is a lot drier now that winter is approaching and I'm breastfeeding 'round the clock. Vichy Mineral 89 has been a favourite staple of mine even before I was pregnant because of how quickly it hydrates my skin. I apply it all over my face - including my lips and undereyes, for a boost of moisture. It's great on it's own, or as a primer for your day cream if your skin is especially parched like mine has been.
Now that I'm a card carrying member of #TeamNoSleep, anything that makes me look more rested gets a big A+ in my books. The Origins Ginzing moisturizer is like an 8-hour sleep in a jar. My skin looks so bright, healthy and hydrated because of this, and I cannot recommend it enough. The gel-like consistency practically melts into my skin and the citrus scent is a great addition to an already invigorating cream.
I also love the tinted version of this cream, for days when I want a little more coverage (and SPF!).
L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow Concealer - $14.99 CAD
If the under-eye situation is looking a little ghastly, or I want a touch of coverage without wanting a full face of foundation, my go-to is this drugstore concealer. My goal is always for my skin to look natural, so this light/medium creamy coverage fits the bill (it's also buildable, in case I want a touch more in certain spots). It has a dewy, natural finish too, so my skin looks extra radiant!
Glossier Boy Brow in 'Brown' - $20 CAD
Glossier Cloud Paint in 'Puff' - $22 CAD
You already know about my love for Glossier, so it should come as no surprise that these two made the cut. On days where I have zero energy to do anything makeup-wise, I still reach for my trusty Boy Brow. Because even though my house/life is in disarray, my brows don't have to be.
If I want to add a bit of a flush to an otherwise dull complexion, a dab of Cloud Paint does the trick. The shade 'Puff' gives a beautiful and natural rosiness to my cheeks that I love.
L'Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara - $13.99 CAD
I can confidently say that no other mascara will ever break my love affair with Lash Paradise. Long, voluminous black lashes in one swipe - is there anything better?!
Since I've been wearing glasses over contacts because I tend to nap on my couch a lot more now, this does a beautiful job of making me look more awake behind the lenses. It's one of those instant pick-me-up products that make me feel better as soon as I apply it.
I've been keeping this gloss in my diaper bag lately (because I don't even bother to carry a purse these days), because it's just so wonderful. 'Dirty Chai' is a gorgeous warm terracotta nude; a tone I love for the chillier months. The gloss is buttery smooth and not at all sticky, and it gives a nice sheen to the lips without being too flashy.
Plus it smells like freshly ground coffee. And if you're a mom, any extra dose of caffeine is always appreciated.
