How To Winter-Proof Your Skin - My Fave Mega Moisturizing Products
Winter is coming - erm... It's here. While I'm still not mentally prepared for the arrival of all this snow, I can at least get my skin prepped and ready to fight off the harsh climate I've become accustomed to whilst living in Ottawa.
Skincare needs change from season to season, which means different products get shuffled to the front of the cabinet this time of year. I've learned recently that my combination skin has a tendency to become dehydrated - And just when I thought I was getting enough glasses of water a day! Lately I've been reaching for products that will really penetrate my skin's surface to deliver moisture where I need it most.
I wanted to share 5 mega moisturizing products that my skin is drinking up lately.
Vichy Mineral 89 Daily Skin Booster- $39.95 CAD
After hearing fellow blogger babe, Amy In 613 rave about this serum, I knew I had to give it a go!
This powerhouse in a bottle has 89% mineralizing thermal water (which is where it gets its namesake), combined with hyaluronic acid to help protect your skin from the cold Canadian winter.
Guys, I've had this for less than a week and I can honestly say it has changed my skin's appearance already! It looks much more luminous and plump, and it feels great! My friend even asked if I was expecting, because I looked "more glowy lately," (I'm not though, don't get all excited).
Vichy Aqualia Thermal Light Cream - $39.95 CAD
I use this creamy moisturizer in conjunction with Mineral 89 as a part of my morning routine. I often find that dense creams are always a bit too heavy and greasy feeling for my liking, but this is suprisingly lightweight while still incredibly nourishing. It's designed for those of us with normal/combo skin, so it does a wonderful job of balancing out hydration without weighing down.
And of course the jar is just as beautiful as the results it gives!
Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Sheet Mask - $3.99 CAD
I love a good sheet mask, but this one is easily the best I've tried in terms of instant hydration. Plus the price is hard to beat! The hyaluronic acid really helps to reveal a refreshed and radiant appearance. It makes my skin feel so incredibly soft just after 15 minutes, I even like to massage the excess serum into my décolletage if I plan on wearing a v-neck or other low cut top.
I've tried the original Super Hydrating Mask previously (in the blue package), and I absolutely loved it! Garnier has since expanded the line to include the Soothing version (pink) which features chamomile extract for sensitive skin types, and also a Mattifying version (green) infused with green tea!
First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer - $18 CAD for mini (0.75oz) or $35 CAD for regular size (1.7oz)
Primers are a beauty product I tend to be super picky about. I don't like the feeling of heavy silicone formulas, or sticky textures. I picked this up as a VIB points reward at Sephora last month and I absolutely plan on picking up a full-size bottle once I squeeze out every last drop!
I love the fact that it's a two-in-one product, so it saves me time while getting ready and really sets the stage for a smooth and even makeup application. I love anything remotely tropical-scented, so the piña colada fragrance really helps me forget that I live in a cold climate (even if just for a moment).
St Ives Oatmeal Face Scrub & Mask - $7.99 CAD
This was recommended to me by my bestie, and she's never done me wrong so I trust her opinion. I've always loved the classic apricot scrub from St Ives, but I found sometimes it can be a bit too much for my sensitive skin (I've over-exfoliated in the past, and it was not a pretty sight).
This creamy scrub is infused with oatmeal, which does a great job of nourishing my dry spots with gentle exfoliation.
It can also be used as a mask, for a more intensive treatment option. I find this especially useful when my dry patches become flaky and generally more icky. I've been using this twice a week and I find my skin looks and feels more nourished and soft.
What products do you reach for during the colder months? Tell me in the comments below, I love hearing about new products from you all!
