Beginner Bump - How To Maternity Shop Your Existing Wardrobe

Shopping for maternity clothing is not as joyous an occasion as I had hoped it to be. It seems that the second you put 'maternity' in front of any clothing item, and it suddenly doubles in price! As if we didn't already have a long list of things to buy before baby arrives, I decided to hold off as long as I could before needing to set foot in another maternity shop.

Because my baby bump is only just starting to debut, I've been making full use of my existing wardrobe these first 4 months (I know, I can't believe it either. Time is FLYING BY). And for that, my wallet is quite thankful! I wanted to share with you what pieces are in heavy rotation as I continue my journey towards motherhood.

Jeans with Stretch

I've always leaned towards denim with a higher rise and some comfortable stretch because in all honesty, I've always had a bit of a belly. Now that my belly has turned into a bump, I find I can still comfortably wear my regular jeans without having to reach for ones with an elastic waistband.

My personal favourite is easily the Rockstar Jean from Old Navy!  These jeans have extra stretch so they're super comfortable whether you're pregnant or not. Plus they come in low, mid or high rise options, so depending on your preference there's a fit for you! I've been wearing this cropped pair of light wash denim for the majority of spring because they don't suffocate my stomach while having a higher rise.

Feelin' my pregnancy glow in this outfit, that's for sure!

What's even better is that they offer this cut in their maternity line, so I can order my regular size with either full or side panel elastics for extra comfort.

Easy Breezy Blouses

Button up blouses and I are no longer BFFs, with the rate my bust is growing at. Rather than stuff myself into tops that pucker and pull at the seams, I've been reaching for flowy tunics and tops instead.
Cotton and linen fabrics are lightweight, which is ideal for when the temperatures start to rise. I've been loving tops with peplum details and empire waists because they flow away from my bump to keep things cool, while still showcasing it for all to see.

This off-the-shoulder number is also from Old Navy (it's one of my fave stores, what can I say!), and is both comfortable and perfectly on trend.

Simple Swing Dresses

Dress - American Eagle Outfitters (shop similar here)
Belt, Scarf & Denim Jacket -Vintage
Shoes - Winners
My motto for pregnancy dressing thus far is 'super comfortable, yet effortless looking. Thankfully I had a bunch of comfortable t-shirt dresses and swingy a-lines at the ready.
I picked up this striped number from American Eagle a few summers ago, and I loved it so much I also grabbed it in black. Outfit repeating occurs quite often with this dress, but it can be easily belted to further accentuate the bump (and mix up the look).

Can't keep my hands to myself. Seriously; I'm anxiously awaiting to feel some kicks from my little one!

Plus on cooler days, it can be topped off with a denim jacket! How's that for versatility?

I hope this helps my fellow moms-to-be pinch some pennies and utilize their existing closets before more of the inevitable baby shopping occurs! What's your go-to maternity outfit? Share them with me in the comments!
