Vegging Out in Montreal - 5 Fave Vegan Friendly Eats

My husband and I recently celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary (which also marks 10 years together!), so we decided to treat ourselves to a weekend visit to Montreal. This marks my third trip to the city, and the first time it didn’t torrential downpour on us the entire stay. And thank goodness, because I didn’t pack an umbrella.

I’m not a jetsetter by any means, but I’m certainly a foodie at heart. So when I do actually manage to leave the house (or the province, in this case), it’s usually to try out a new restaurant. It’s important to note that my husband is vegetarian, so we're always thrilled whenever we can find vegetarian options for him to enjoy on a night out. It’s especially exciting when he discovers he can have anything on the menu. We were pleasantly surprised to see that Montreal has a plethora of plant-based restaurants to choose from.

We dined on everything from classic diner food, to ice cream and donuts. Needless to say, we left with full bellies and even fuller hearts! Montreal, je t’aime!

Here’s our top 5 picks for veggie-friendly eats in Montreal!

La Beignerie

3379 Saint Denis St, Montreal

I'm a sucker for a good pun, so this donut shop quickly won me over based on name alone (their logo is absolutely adorable, too).
These donuts are light as air with the most decadent toppings and fillings. And - you guessed it- they're totally vegan!

With flavours like crème brûlée, choco-speculoos, and strawberry sublime, you’ll want to get a dozen just to try them all!

Maynard

30 Prince Arthur St W, Montreal

If you're in need of a some classic comfort food, this cute and cozy little diner hits the spot. This retro-style ‘chip shack’ feels like visiting an old friend, and the charming staff made us feel right at home upon entering.

The menu has all the nostalgic favourites with a vegan twist, like mac & ‘cheez’ and mushroom wings. The homemade burger is a real winner, though. They keep it nice and simple, but surprise you with its delicious flavour. It’s clear everything is made with love, and I cannot wait to visit again soon.

Lola Rosa

Multiple locations across Montreal

It’s not often you find upscale options for vegans and vegetarians, and we immediately impressed by the imaginative spin on some of our favourite foods. This elevated ethical eatery is home to a gourmet menu full of plant-based delights like chili made with ground seitan, and black bean quesadillas served with their homemade ‘poiscamole’ (that’s guacamole made with peas!),

Don’t forget to leave a note in your table drawer for the next visitor! It’s tradition!

Burger Fiancé

417 Notre-Dame St W, Montreal

Regrettably, I didn’t get a chance to snap a photo of my meal, but that’s because I couldn’t put it down after the first bite! Believe me when I say you’ll be saying, “I DO!” after your first visit.

They take plant-based to the next level, and the space is as chic as can be. The namesake Fiancé Burger is made with their signature smash patty and comes fully stacked with all the toppings - including an onion ring! They also have a ‘pulled pork’ sandwich made with shiitake mushrooms, which I wholeheartedly believe could fool the most devout carnivore.

Crèmerie Meu Meu

4458 rue Saint-Denis, Montreal

After seeing a lineup out the door and down the block, we knew we had to get a taste of this local favourite. While I was thrilled to have a cone of frozen custard, they were also scooping up a variety of vegan-friendly sorbet and almond milk ice cream.

Alongside the classic chocolate and vanilla you know and love, you'll also find creative flavours like hibiscus or tamarind at this vibrant neighborhood spot.
