Loving Yourself In Lingerie: Valentine's Day Styles For Every Mood
My mother taught me to always celebrate the little things, because life is too short not to.
Perhaps it's my upbringing, or maybe it's the fact that I'm a complete and utter hopeless romantic, but I'm a big Valentine's Day fan and I love to celebrate it any way I can!
Full disclosure: I handed out Valentines to my classmates until I was in high school. Who doesn't like a cheesy card and a Hershey's kiss?!
I find a lot of people have a love/hate relationship with this day. I've always seen it as a day to celebrate love in all its beautiful forms; Platonic love, romantic love, and especially self love.
Coincidentally, a big seller on this holiday happens to be lingerie (For obvious reasons which I'm sure I don't need to elaborate on). Little known fact about me is that I'm a bit of an underwear aficionado (Or at least an aspiring one).
I've always been a firm believer that lingerie doesn't have to be for anyone but yourself. It can make you feel beautiful, luxurious, comfortable, sexy, and empowering. Whether you share that with someone else is entirely up to you.
In the name of cupid and loving yourself, I have put together 4 different styles of undies to help set the mood for your Valentine's Day, no matter what your plans may be!

I originally picked up this pale pink pairing while I was visiting my best friend in Australia. Jean Paul Gaultier did a collaboration with Target Australia, and I bee-lined straight towards the lingerie section because I knew it'd be glorious. Gaultier has been one of my favourite designers since I got into fashion. For those unaware, he is the visionary behind Madonna's iconic cone bra.
The detail on this bra is reminiscent of that famous look, without the pronounced cone effect. It's a great nod to vintage styling while still being modern.
I love wearing this under dresses or 'going out' looks to add that touch of femininity and sex appeal. Top it off with a pinch of blush, a flutter of mascara and a flick of cat-eye liner, and it'll give your V-Day look a little va-va-voom!
This is my go to when I want to be cozy but also feel cute. No underwire, no clasps, just pure coziness.
I'm determined to remove the stigma surrounding high cut briefs, or what some of you may call 'granny panties'. First off, these are the most comfortable pair of underwear I've ever put on. They're super soft, stretchy and dare I say it, DAMN cute! They're cut quite nicely on the tush, so they give a little cheekiness (Pardon the pun).
I love the bordeaux colour here, because it's reminiscent of wine....which you may be drinking while rocking this set (whether that's in a glass, or straight from the bottle, is your call). Pair it with a rose infused sheet mask, and you've got a relaxing evening planned.
Remember that self love I was talking about? Everyone has that one piece that makes them feel so sexy, and that's exactly what you should reach for on this special day.

This chemise is essentially the embodiment of loving yourself, for me at least. This is the most unapologetically sexy thing I own, and I feel so empowered when I slip it on. Any piece of clothing that gives you that feeling is worth pulling out for the occasion. The sheer fabric hugs every curve and the embroidery adds a whimsical yet sultry edge.
The only thing you need to accompany this is a spritz of your favourite fragrance. When I want to feel sensual I reach for Diesel's Loverdose. It's a great balance of sweet and spicy notes, which I feel really speak to this lingerie look.
Lingerie doesn't have to be complicated, so why give it a second thought? You can still feel flirty and fun in something that's easy to wear and takes only a moment to put on (Or, ahem....take off).
Betsey Johnson always comes to mind when i think 'flirty, fun and feminine'. This dreamy little negligee is light as air, and so gosh darn cute. I usually wear it to bed when I feel like wearing a nightgown, and it doesn't feel uncomfortable or sweaty like some faux silk slips can.
I love the idea of sliding this flouncy number on after a frothy bubble bath, and lounging in it while painting on a mani/pedi. If you've got fluffy bunny slippers, I'd throw those on too!
